Enrolment Information

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Cabra Students

Thank you for enquiring about enrolling your child at Cabra Dominican College. At Cabra we believe that adolescence is an important and exciting time in each young person’s life. Therefore, we recognise that choosing the right educational environment for your son or daughter is a significant decision for all families. With this in mind we hope that the information provided below will assist your planning.

Most students begin their journey at Cabra in Year 6 or Year 8, however from 2019 Cabra will become a Year 7-12 college. Further information regarding the move to a single Year 7 intake is detailed below. However, we also welcome enrolments in other year levels if places become available. During the application process our Registrar will be your main point of contact to answer any of your questions about enrolment or life at Cabra.

Ready for Year 7 2019

You may be aware that in 2015 the South Australian Commission for Catholic Schools endorsed a move towards shifting Year 7 from primary to secondary settings. Catholic Education South Australia (CESA) is now implementing that decision and most Catholic schools in South Australia will make this change in 2019. This means that, for most schools, Year 6 will become the final year of primary schooling. Year 7 will become the first year of secondary schooling.

What does this mean for our school?

In 2019 Cabra will become a Year 7-12 college. That means that all students will commence at Cabra in Year 7 (one single intake) from 2019. However, we will work closely with families and primary schools to ensure that all students can access enrolment at Cabra as we make the transition to a new school structure.

Why move Year 7 to secondary?

This decision is primarily about meeting the learning, social and emotional needs of young people across all Catholic Schools. It is also about strengthening pathways from primary to secondary schools across Catholic Education. Offering a consistent entry into secondary school at Year 7 makes it easier for students to explore and access all options. You will find Ready for Year 7 resources including a video and fact sheets at www.cesa.catholic.edu.au I encourage you to look at those resources.

We understand that this move is a significant one, please be assured that we will continue to keep you updated and informed as we move closer to 2019. As always, the education and wellbeing of your child will remain our focus.
