Dear Parents and Caregivers
Thank you for enquiring about enrolment at Cabra Dominican College.

At Cabra we believe that adolescence is an important and exciting time in each young person’s life. Therefore, we recognise that choosing the right environment for your son or daughter is a significant decision for all families. With this in mind, we hope that the information contained in this pack will assist your planning.

Changes to intake points from 2019

You may be aware that in 2015 the South Australian Commission for Catholic Schools endorsed a move towards shifting Year 7 from primary to secondary settings. Catholic Education South Australia (CESA) is now implementing that decision and most Catholic schools in South Australia, including Cabra, will make this change in 2019.

This means that Cabra Dominican College will become a Year 7 -12 college from 2019.

All students will commence at Cabra in Year 7 (one single intake) from 2019, we will no longer offer a Year 6 intake from this time. However, as it will be a period of transition, we will also honour applications for Year 8 in 2019 only to ensure students finishing primary school in 2018 will have a pathway into secondary school.

Once the transition is complete, the new structure of Catholic education will provide even better pathways and smoother transition of students between the different stages of schooling. Here at Cabra we look forward to the single intake of students and to providing the young people in Year 7 with access to the resources and specialist staff needed to optimise their learning under the Australian Curriculum. The single intake also allows us to extend the range of music, sporting and extra-curricular opportunities available for our youngest students.

We also welcome enrolments in other year levels if places become available. During the application process our Registrar will be your main point of contact to answer any of your questions about enrolment at Cabra.

The Enrolment Process

Submitting Your Application

Applications need to be submitted at least two years prior to commencing at Cabra. Please include the following to assist your application:

·         Application fee

·         Copy of the student’s birth certificate

·         If born overseas, a copy of the student’s immigration visa subclass number or Australian citizenship certificate

·         Copy of sacramental certificates (where applicable)

·         Copy of most recent school report

Enrolment Interviews

These meetings provide us with an opportunity to discuss your application in person and to learn more about your son or daughter. Our senior members of staff who conduct the interviews are also well placed to answer any questions that you might have about our educational programs and other opportunities available to Cabra students.

Offers of Enrolment

Following the enrolment interview, once we have considered all of the applications for a particular intake, the college sends letters of offer to families. If we are not able to offer your child a place at Cabra, you will receive a letter inviting you to remain on our waiting list until we are able to make subsequent offers or enrolments are finalised.

Late Applications

Applications, received after the first round of interviews are held, are placed on our waiting list if there are no vacancies available at the time of submission. Although we try our best to offer enrolment to all families, especially those that meet the criteria, enrolment cannot be guaranteed unless the relevant paperwork is received within the specified timelines.
